What is Extras cover?
Extras cover is the part of private health insurance that helps with everyday health services Medicare doesn't pay for.
Think dental check-ups, new glasses, a physio session after an injury, or a visit to the psychologist.
Hospital cover looks after you when you're admitted to hospital. Extras cover looks after the day-to-day care that keeps you well.
You can hold Extras cover on its own, or combine it with Hospital cover through Gold Combined. If you're new to all this, our guide on how health insurance works is a good place to start.

When you visit a recognised provider, you pay for your appointment and then claim a portion back from Police Health. When you visit a recognised provider, Rolling Extras helps reduce the cost of your appointment by paying benefits towards eligible services.
Many claims can be made on the spot, or quickly through the app or member portal. Our guide on how to claim walks you through it.
Up to 80% back at your choice of provider
On most Extras services, you'll get up to 80% back, up to the item limit.
There's no preferred provider network. As long as your provider is recognised by us, the choice is yours.
Rollover: carry unused limits into next year
This is where Rolling Extras stands out.
If you don't use your full annual limit on a service, the unused amount can roll over into the next calendar year, so you can make use of any unused benefit.
Rollover applies to the majority of our Extras benefits once you've completed your first 12 months of membership (2 years for Major Dental). You can read more in the Rollover Benefit Guide.*
A simple example
Say you don't use your full optical benefit this year because you didn't need new glasses.
With Rollover, that unused amount can carry into next year, giving you a larger benefit limit to put toward new frames or lenses when you do need them.*
It's a small difference that can make everyday cover go further, especially for busy policing families.
Is Extras health insurance right for you?
Extras cover tends to suit you if you value using health services like dental, optical, physio or psychology, or you'd like help managing those everyday costs.
Because Police Health is built specifically for the policing community and their families, the cover is designed around the services members actually use. If you'd like both Hospital and Extras together, Gold Combined brings both under one membership at a reduced premium compared with taking each separately.
