Police Health is a not-for-profit health fund created specifically for police and their families. With simple cover options designed around the needs of police and their families, we do things differently to most health funds.
Here are the 11 ways Police Health stands apart.
1. Hospital and Extras cover that's for police and their families
The biggest difference with Police Health Insurance (Police Health) is that it’s designed exclusively for the policing community.
By restricting membership to the policing community, Police Health can better understand members’ needs, helping to keep premiums fair and sustainable over time.
2. You only have to choose from Hospital cover, Extras cover or Combined cover
Police Health makes it simple to choose the right health cover by offering you only 3 options;
Having only 3 choices makes it easy to know what you're covered for and saves you time by not having to compare dozens of different options like you have to with some health funds.
3. Health cover with no gimmicks
Police Health's cover does what it says on the box – private health cover. We don't add promotional offers such as flybuys, frequent flyer points or other kind of specials.
This helps keep our costs down and offers you a high-quality cover for what you need.
4. Switching to Police Health is easy
We make health insurance simple, just choose whether you want to be covered for Gold Hospital, Rolling Extras or Combined.
Plus, we do the paperwork -we contact your old insurer and cancel your membership for you.
You also won’t need to re-serve waiting periods that you’ve already served with your old fund.
5. Our Gold Hospital has no excess, no exclusions and no co-payments
We keep it simple by only offering value for money top-level Gold Hospital cover, with no exclusions or restrictions.*
This keeps top cover more affordable for everyone, and it's how we beat the big guys on price!
When you have Police Health Gold Hospital, you also have the added benefit of no excess and co-payments when you do go to hospital.*
While some funds don’t offer any lower than $750 Excess, we’re committed to help you better manage your costs when you need it most by imposing no excess at all.
6. Choose your preferred hospital, doctor or other service provider
We don’t have a preferred provider network, instead we give you the freedom to choose your preferred hospital, doctor and any other service provider as long as the provider is recognised by us.
7. Extra support for hospital stays
Police Health is proud to partner with Vitalis, to offer this bespoke TeleNurse Surgery Support Program to eligible members at no additional cost.
Staffed by highly trained and empathetic nurses with specific experience in the medical procedures covered, our TeleNurse Surgery Support Program offers pre-hospitalisation and post-discharge home support via phone.
Eligibility and criteria applies, read more information here.
8. Extras cover with benefits that roll over
Our Rolling Extras cover lets you roll over unclaimed Annual Limits from one calendar year to the next on most Extras services*.
Let’s use the example of Stacey, who joined Police Health on 1 January 2022.
She goes through the whole calendar year without claiming Optical benefits (such as new prescription glasses and/or contact lenses).
Then on 1 January 2023, the rollover kicks in and her $350 Annual Maximum becomes $700 (subject to Waiting Periods).
After that, rollover kicks in every 1 January.
For Major Dental, Stacey will have to wait two years before her $1,500 Annual Maximum rolls over to $3,000.
9. Get up to 80% back on most Extras services
We don’t have a preferred provider network. As long as the provider (dentist, physiotherapist etc) is recognised by us, on most Extras you will get up to 80% back, up to the item limit.*
10. Better dental cover
Root Canal, Simple and Surgical Extractions and Periodontic treatment are covered under General Dental, with no annual limit*, rather than Major Dental like most other funds.
This means your Major Dental category is not exhausted by these services and is available if you need more complex dental services.
11. Bonus discounts on glasses
At OPSM and Laubman & Pank stores, Police Health members with Rolling Extras or Gold Combined can enjoy these discounts and offers.
This is on top of a range of other benefits with other optical providers.
