With the majority of extras claims such as dental and optical, many of the health providers can process your claim on the spot using electronic claiming facilities, provided by HICAPS.
Often referred to as “Eftpos style” claiming, simply swipe your membership card and sign to validate the service. Your claim will be automatically lodged with Police Health and we’ll pay the provider directly, leaving you to pay only the out of pocket gap.
To find out if your health provider offers HICAPS electronic claiming, simply look for the HICAPS logo, contact your health provider, or click here to search online.

How
payments will be made
Hospital claims generally come direct to us from the hospital and we send the claim cheque back direct to the hospital, so you won't have to make a claim.
Cheques covering Medigap or extras services will be made payable to you if you've already paid the account, or to the provider of the service if you haven't paid the account. In both instances the cheques will be forwarded to you. If you haven't paid the account, just send the cheque on to the provider together with your portion of the account.
Doctors billing under our Access Gap Cover will normally forward their account direct to us. We will then claim your Medicare entitlements for you and pay that, together with your Police Health benefit, direct to the doctor.

HICAPS Provider Search
The following search facility is provided by HICAPS. It includes all health providers with the HICAPS electronic claim service.
Members are advised that claims for the following service groups are not available electronically- orthodontic, occupational therapy, naturopathy acupuncture, complementary therapies, dietary, psychology and speech therapy.
This search facility may include health providers who are not recognised by Police Health for the provision of electronic claims, you will need to lodge claims for these health providers in the normal way. It may also include health providers who are not recognised with Police Health for the payment of benefits and are therefore not covered by Police Health. These situations are rare however members may wish to confirm their health provider is recognised for benefits by contacting Police Health.
